Are you an experienced chef with a background in managing fast-paced kitchens? Do you also have a couple of years of baking experience and a passion for sustainable, zero-waste practices? If so, this could be the perfect job for you! Berlin-based Roots Radicals is looking for a Head Chef (m/f/x) to join their team. In this role, you’ll lead the canteen and event catering operations, working closely with every branch of the company, especially circular production and Good Food (events).This is an exciting opportunity to take your culinary ideas and concepts to the next level, growing with us as we embark on new and exciting chapters.
The position is 5 days a week, full-time - with a future option to consider to go to 32 hours/week (1 year ahead).

We also make a range of high-end, seasonal products with rescued fruit and vegetables such as hot sauces, chutneys, ferments etc. and this role will work in tandem with that department to have an overview of our zero-waste goals.

About the Roots Canteen:
The culinary concept of the canteen is home cooking with a creative yet simple touch.The Roots Radicals Canteen currently offers:
- One vegan daily changing main dish, which will extend to two options in the future
- Weekly set sides
- Special sides that go with the dishes - extending to seasonal sides
- Soup of the week, and salad of the week
- Add-on options (this is where we include any dairy options
- In-house made sweets for the CHNO Café in Campus and possible future Cafés
- Sandwich offer, wrap offers for the Café in Campus and possible future Cafés
- Breakfast options: overnight oats, granola and yoghurt parfaits, etc.
The canteen also is responsible for executing the catering for many different events, and when not, the Head Chef is directly involved in the communication and logistics to make them happen.
YOU
- Minimum 5 years of cooking and kitchen management experience
- Minimum 2 years baking experience
- Minimum 2 year commitment to the job
- At Roots Radicals we work a lot with preservation methods: pickling, drying and fermentation - experience in these techniques is a plus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent team leadership and management
- Strong organisation and time management skills
- Passion for food and sustainability
- English knowledge
- European nationality or visa
- A driving licence and German language skills are a plus
