Michelberger Farm
In Spreewald close to Vettschau you will find the Michelberger Farm. They have had the architect Sigurd Larsen redo an old barn into a combined hotel and community areas. Rooms are minimalist and cosy, the two-beds are small and share bathrooms, emphasizing the shared experience vibe. Good to know when planning, this is not a full service hotel with lots of privacy. The downstairs space makes up for everything, it’s stunning. Grabbing a glass by the open fire on the giant couch with a view on the farm through the ceiling to floor windows is hard to beat. They have a great outdoor kitchen where they cook over open fire using loads of ingredients form the farm and some producers from the area. Food is simple but executed with loads of technique, we've had a meal of potato focaccia with a chicken soup to start, then some grilled trout with a bunch of very fresh sides: Red beet with pickled currants, chicory with blue cheese. Then a sake paste ice cream for dessert. Simple, but really exactly what you want to eat in a setting like this. After a good night of sleep you get to enjoy breakfast, which essentially is a simplified version of the legendary Michelberger Hotel breakfast. Fantastic produce, eggs made to order, superb cheese from a local producer (Gut Ogrosen, check it out they have a Hofladen!). The Farm is a great option for a getaway.
You can come over on Sundays for a family meal without having to spend the night.
